Criss Cross Infinity scarf

free crochet pattern

The Criss Cross Infinity Scarf is the perfect finishing touch to our Criss Cross Collection (check out the beanie and fingerless gloves patterns). The scarf adds effortless style to your winter wardrobe with a blend of double crochets, half double crochets, and the crossed double crochet stitch. The patterns are easily customisable to suit your needs. Finished scarf measures approx. 120 cm long x 10 cm wide

The paid versions of our patterns are written a little differently with beginner and neurodivergent crafters in mind. The abbreviated instructions are followed by a breakdown in italics making it easier to understand what you need to crochet in each row / round. If you’ve had trouble reading crochet patterns in the past, we hope that you’ll give ours a try! Available to purchase on Ravelry and our website.

Please read before you start the pattern:

You can use any yarn you like, but make sure you match your hook with the weight, your tension, and gauge (if you don’t meet gauge, your scarf will be a different size). For this example, we have used an DK weight yarn with a 5.5mm hook. Acrylic yarn will have a bit of stretch, but you can also use cotton, wool, or blends.

The infinity scarf is worked in rows of Double Crochet, Half Double Crochet, and Crossed Double Crochet.

Row 1 is the length of the scarf, so make sure you’re happy with this before continuing on with the pattern. We start the scarf with Foundation Half Double Crochet stitches. If you do chains instead, go up 1 hook size for the chain or make sure your tension is loose.

This pattern is easily customisable:

• Make the scarf longer by adding more stitches to Row 1 (even number)
• Make the scarf shorter by decreasing stitches to Row 1 (even number)
• Make the scarf wider by adding more rows

Gauge: 15 dc x 11 rows of the pattern = 10 cm x 10cm

The Pattern

Chain 1 or 2 at the beginning of each round does NOT count as a stitch

TURN at the end of each row

The scarf width is a 4 row repeat:

– Double crochet
– Half double crochet
– Crossed double crochet
– Half double crochet

The 1st Row is the length of the scarf and is the wrong side – if you change the stitch count, make sure it’s an even number

Row 1: 180 fhdc, Turn (180)

Row 2: Ch 2, dc in each st, Turn (180)

Row 3: Ch 1, hdc in each st, Turn (180)

Row 4: Ch 2, *skip 1 dc, dc in the next dc, dc in the skipped dc* Repeat to the end of the row, Turn (180)

Row 5: Ch 1, hdc in each st, Turn (180)

Repeat Row 2 – 5 once more:

Row 6: dc (180)

Row 7: hdc (180)

Row 8: crossed dc (180)

Row 9: hdc (180)

Row 10: Ch 2, dc in each st, Turn (180)

Row 11: Ch 1, hdc in each st, Turn (180)

If you want the scarf to be wider, keep repeating the 4 row pattern and end with Row 10 (dc) & 11 (hdc)

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing up the ends of the scarf

Fold the scarf (right sides together) with the short ends touching (these are the ends that we’re going to sew together to make the infinity style of scarf)

Carefully match up the rows and neatly sew the short ends together (you can use sewing pins to keep the rows lined up as you work)

Weave in any ends, and then flip the scarf so that right side is showing
