This Rainbow Bead Fidget pattern combines your love of fidgeting with yarn and colourful pony beads. Made with a handy lanyard clip, it’s perfect for on-the-go fidgeting. Easy to follow instructions make it beginner-friendly, and endless colour and bead combinations let you personalise your fidget. Get ready for some bead-rolling fun! Please read before you start the pattern:
For the example, we have used a Worsted weight yarn (KnitPicks Brava), but we’ve also used scraps of DK and Aran weight.
You need a hook small enough to fit through the bead (3.5mm or smaller).
The pattern uses 6 colours of glitter pony beads in a rainbow pattern (starting with purple). Feel free to use whatever coloured beads you like! They just need to have a hole big enough to fit over your crochet hook.
This pattern could be easily used to create bracelets as well.
MATERIALS
- Worsted weight yarn (KnitPicks Brava)
– Cobblestone Heather - 3.5mm crochet hook
- Lanyard Clip
- Pony Beads – 9mm (12 beads)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
ABBREVIATIONS
- sc – single crochet
- ch – chain
- hdc – half double crochet
- hdc2tog – half double two together / half double crochet decrease
- bead sc – place a bead onto your crochet hook, put the hook into the next stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops and the bead
- sl st – slip stitch
- fasten off – cut the yarn and pull through
- (#) – total number of stitches at the end of the row
- * * – repeat the stitches inside the asterisks
- ( ) – complete the stitches inside the brackets in the same stitch
The Pattern
Chain 1 at the beginning of each row does NOT count as a stitch
TURN at the end of each row
Row 1: Ch 7, starting in 2nd ch from the hook, hdc in the back bump of each ch (6)
Row 2 – 3:
Adding the beads:
The beads are added to the fidget in a two-row repeat.
1. Bead Row: Ch 1, hdc, bead sc, hdc, bead sc, 2 hdc (6)
2. HDC Row: Ch 1, hdc in each st (6)
Alternate the two rows until you have added 6 rows of beads – ending on a half double crochet row (13 rows total)
Create the flap for the clip:
Row 14: Ch 1, hdc2tog, 2 hdc, hdc2tog (4)
Row 15 – 19: Ch 1, hdc in each stitch (4)
Fasten off leaving a long tail
Thread the Clip onto the 6 rows of 4 half double crochets
Fold over and sew the two sides together using the tail
Weave in all ends
