Week 4 – The Facebook Suspension
Wow… another week of insanity.
On Saturday, I got Zucked, and my Facebook and Instagram accounts were suspended. In order to appeal, I had to send them a terrible selfie and a picture of my ID (so, I guess Palantir have all my info now). Luckily (or maybe unluckily), I woke up today and everything was reinstated. It was stressful AF, and it made me realise that I really need to get off FB. I love the crochet groups on there, but this is getting ridiculous.
In world news, ICE are still wreaking havoc in Minnesota. I woke up this morning to news that another person was murdered. Every day, we get closer to a civil war. It gives me a stomachache to open Instagram because I know there will be some new horror waiting.
Earlier in the week, Trump continued looking like a fool in Davos at the World Economic Forum. The PM of Canada gave a historic speech, and now Trump is threatening tariffs again (he only has 1 way to deal with people – bullying). Do we think he’s given up on Greenland?
“You think your pain and your heartbreak are unprecedented in the history of the world, but then you read. It was books that taught me that the things that tormented me most were the very things that connected me with all the people who were alive, who had ever been alive.” James Baldwin
We are entering into another long heat wave here in Adelaide. Yesterday was 45C and the temps aren’t due to get lower than 38C until next Saturday.
Heat is awful for dysautonomia. I’m basically housebound when it’s this hot outside. I can’t even go out into the garden for more than a few minutes.
I’ve been using this time to think about where I want to go with Fox Creations, and how I can move away from social media to do it. If you have any ideas, I’d love to hear them!
I finished the Whirlette sweater! It is a lot warmer than I thought it would be, so I am going to have to put it aside until cooler weather comes back around. I am planning to make another top-down sweater in the same yarn, but maybe with a US double crochet to open up the fabric.
I used Dora Does’ Any Yarn Will Do Sweater pattern and substituted hdc (half double crochet) for esc (extended single crochet) with a 4.5mm hook – 4mm hook for the single crochet ribbing.
I also finished another Indiana Moth (pattern by Pica Pau). I used Scheepjes Little Darling and a 3.5mm hook. No idea what I’ll do with him… maybe sell? Maybe auction and donate the money?
This week, we started watching the new season of Fallout. Honestly, I am struggling to remember what happened last season and how all the characters/plot points interact. Walton Goggins is fucking amazing as The Ghoul – he’s the only reason I am still watching.
In terms of reading, I started (and finished) Hemlock & Silver by T. Kingfisher. It was a bit… meh. I’d say 3.5 stars. Again, it seemed like it needed a final edit, and I’m thinking this is just her writing style. Of all her books, this one is my least favourite. I also started the last book of the Chrestomanci series, The Pinhoe Egg.
Fun fact – I have a master’s degree in Creative Writing! I also have a BA in Classics/English, so I do have a background in studying literature and history.

The Heart Cat Ear Beanie continues to be popular this week. It’s so cute, so I can understand why people are loving it. The pattern is easy to adjust, and you could also skip the 2nd line of hearts and cinch up the top for a standard beanie.
If you want some matching gloves, we have a pattern for that, too! The Cross My Heart Fingerless Gloves are made by cross-stitching the heart motifs. The perfect way to mash up two awesome crafts.
The Hair Clip Fidgets are still getting love on Etsy and social media. People have been talking about using these as Random Acts of Crochet Kindness (leaving little crochet items out for people to find). Yes to all that! We need more thoughtfulness and kindness in the world.
Again, please feel free to send any recommendations for crochet communities or ways to connect that aren’t on Meta platforms.
