Week 15 – End of a Civilisation

Woo, friends! I am fucking tired… bone tired. 

Did anyone else go to sleep earlier this week wondering if Trump was going to nuke Iran? 

On Tuesday, I spoke to my therapist about trying a different type of therapy (or, really, adding it to my existing therapy). By Wednesday, I was thinking, “Is it even worth investing the money and time into this when Trump might drive us all into nuclear fallout any day now?”

How do we maintain our hope, creativity, and whimsy when we’re witnessing atrocities and being emotionally abused by the President of the United States? 

This week, I’ve been thinking a lot about the propaganda we’ve been raised on in the ‘West’. So much of what we’ve been told about the world is a lie. How did I live nearly 40 years on this Earth without knowing the truth about Israel and Palestine? We’ve been told that the issue is complicated, but it’s not – it’s incredibly simple.

Old white men in Europe decided that they’d create a Zionist state after WWII, on land where people were already living – Palestine. And in order to create the state of Israel, they murdered and forced the Palestinians out of their homes and off their land. Simple… and now we’re watching Israel push into Lebanon to achieve their Greater Israel Project. 

And Communism? Well, Communist countries have failed because the United States / CIA caused them to fail. Communism is a danger to Capitalists.

Week 6 of the stupidest war of the century.

This week, Trump’s demented frontal lobe took over, and he posted this:

“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP”

Then he followed up with:

“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS?”

The destruction never happened (thankfully). Trump TACO‘d, and there was a ceasefire announced before the deadline. We’re currently still in that ceasefire – although everyone is arguing about whether Lebanon was included in the ceasefire (Iran and Pakistan say that it was, the USA and Israel say that it wasn’t). Israel bombed and killed over 250 people in Lebanon after the ceasefire was announced. So far, the peace talks in Pakistan have come to nothing – no agreement has been reached. 

Other shit from this week:

• Spain and other European leaders have come out condemning the US and Israel

• Australian PM travelled to Singapore to discuss fuel shortages and mutually agreeable trade (i.e. they send us petrol and diesel – we send them LPG)

• India is running out of cooking fuel (LPG)

• The Strait of Hormuz is still closed and Trump has floated the idea that he will enter into a deal with Iran to benefit from the tolls they’re charging ships to travel through

• Melania Trump gave a bizarre speech about the Epstein Files at the White House
• The fishing industry in Thailand is at a standstill because of fuel costs
• Trump is dismantling the US Forest Service (right before fire season)
• Trump has reportedly promised Presidential pardons to all of his staff before he leaves office (basically, a carte blanche to do crimes and break the law for him)

Autumn has well and truly arrived in Adelaide this week. It’s only 16C as I’m writing this on Saturday afternoon. The heater is on, it’s been raining all day, and I am not ready for this cold weather!

The worst part is that I can’t take any finished pattern pictures because there’s no sunlight! It’s all nasty and gloomy. Monday is looking promising, so please cross your fingers for me. The change in weather and stress of the world circumstances have flared my MCAS symptoms, so I don’t know how much work I’ll be able to get done next week.

I’m working on a shawl pattern by TL Yarn Crafts with a Scheepjes Whirl, but it’s killing my hands. I’m not sure if it’s because of MCAS / hEDS or just the super thin thread.

We have 1 more episode of Breaking Bad. I would love to speak to a Psychiatrist about Walt’s behaviour. I feel like I need to watch the whole series again and write an essay on each character and the recurring themes. It’s such an insanely good show.

House is still awful, and I’m still watching it. Send help. In the episode I watched last night, House was lusting over a 17-year-old child. Fuck me… a lot has changed since the early 2000’s. We seem to be going backwards in the last few years, but at least this isn’t the shit on TV anymore.

I finished reading Harrow the Ninth. The story ended much better than it started. The 2nd person POV and time jumps were so distracting. I’m a couple of chapters into the next book, Nona the Ninth.

I had time this week to reformat the Rainbow Bead Fidget pattern, and I’m just waiting to take a few new pictures (but the weather is not cooperating).

If you prayed to the yarn gods, thank you, because I had just enough yarn to finish my goth poncho! I think I will be naming it the Bat Wings Poncho. Again, I’m waiting for better weather to take the final pictures. I love how it turned out, and I’m wearing it right now!

I have another poncho on my hook with Sindar Jewelspun Ombre, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to continue if my MCAS symptoms continue, because I am reacting to the acrylic yarn. So far, so good…

The Magic Mosaic Cube has been popping off on Ravelry and Etsy! This is one of my fave patterns. I keep mine on my work desk, and I move it around depending on how the day is going. 

The Holy Shit Emotional Support Poop has also been popular! I mean… of course it has. I actually gifted one of these to my Father-in-law, and he keeps it on his computer desk. He loves it!

I am thinking of writing pattern roundups with fun NSFW patterns and other cool things I’ve seen on social media. Would anyone be interested in those?
