Proudly proclaim your love of a diaper-free, cat-hair filled lifestyle with this crochet Childless Cat Ladies Wall Hanging. Our gauge for the pattern is 10 stitches x 7 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm before blocking. The finished crocheted panel is approx. 48cm x 28.5cm after blocking.
Our patterns are written a little differently with beginner and neurodivergent crafters in mind. The abbreviated instructions are followed by a breakdown in italics, making it easier to understand what you need to crochet in each row / round. The Pattern
Please read the information below before starting the pattern:
Tapestry crochet can be worked in a number of different ways. For this example, we have used single crochet and floating the colours on the wrong side.
We have changed colour in the last yarn over of the stitch BEFORE the new colour (i.e. with 2 chains left on the hook, yarn over and pull through with the new colour).
The yarn for each colour change is carried across the wrong side of the fabric as floats. When you change colour, simply drop the unused yarn to the back and pick up the new colour. On wrong side rows, pull the working yarn towards the front before completing the final yarn over with the new colour.
Be careful with the tension of your floats. If the floats are too tight, they will pull and warp the fabric. When the floats are over 4 stitches, it’s recommended to catch the floats as you crochet (there are videos on YouTube).
You can follow the written pattern or the chart (available on Ravelry).
Written Pattern: Each colour is represented by a letter (e.g. C = Cream, P = Purple) with the number of stitches following it. Row 6 starts with C19 (19 Cream stitches) and P7 (7 purple stitches).
Chart: Each little square represents 1 single crochet stitch. Right-handed crocheters start on the right side for Row 1 and the left side for Row 2 (vice versa for left-handers).
You can get creative and use the graph for cross-stitch, C2C Block Stitch, perler beads, etc.
Tip: Put a stitch marker in the first and last stitch of the row to help keep your edges straight.
Mark off the pattern as you go – it’s easy to lose your place!

Gauge
Our gauge for the pattern is 10 stitches x 7 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm before blocking
It’s not important to meet gauge unless you want the finished tapestry to be the same size as ours. The most important thing is to match your yarn to your hook and tension. The fabric should be tight and stiff. We suggest using the same brand / type of yarn throughout.

Assembly: 1. Measure across the top of the piece 2. Add approx. 10 – 15cm to the measurement and cut 2 pieces of 16mm wooden dowel to this size 3. Using a Whip Stitch and a long piece of Cream yarn, sew the dowel to the top of the wall hanging (make sure your stitches aren’t too tight or too loose) 4. Repeat with the second piece of dowel on the bottom 5. Make a tight chain roughly the length of the dowel and attach to the outside of the panel on the top dowel to use as a hanger 6. Weave in all the ends on the back of the panel 7. Make 3 tassels (1 each in Black, Grey, and Orange) – tassels in the example are 7cm long and made with a Boye Tassel Maker 8. Tie tassels to the bottom dowel approx. 5 stitches apart |
