Week 10 – Fortunes and War
I’m out of Facebook jail!
I can finally comment on FB posts again. Meta is so ridiculous. They allow the most disgusting comments and posts, but tell a misogynist to ‘fuck all the way off’, and you’re punished with having your account limited.
Will I learn my lesson? I mean… It’s highly unlikely at this point in my life. Plus, the more stressed I get, the less patience I have for idiotic comments on social media.
Anyway, the most exciting crochet happening this week is that I finally finished the Magic Mosaic Cube! Honestly, it was starting to feel like I would never get it done. I had a couple of days off this week because *chronic illness*, and cotton yarn is so hard on my body.
The pattern includes NINE charts, written instructions, and Stitch Fiddle links. There’s also lots of information on how to join the panels (including a diagram) and some tips on how to clean up the corners.
The idea is that it’s like an NSFW Magic 8 Ball in a crocheted cube – roll it to get an answer to your question. It’s also a great way to practice Overlay Mosaic since there are no special stitches.
World news continued to get worse and worse (where is the floor with this administration?).
We’re about a week into the Iran War (a war that is and isn’t a war according to Trump’s lackeys, and no one can agree on why this war was even started).
I don’t think people realise how bad things are. Iran is no podunk little country in the ‘Middle East‘. This isn’t going to be a quick war.
Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz, which means no ships are moving through one of the most important trade routes in the world. None. No oil. No natural gas. Petrol prices have already risen to over $2 a litre in Adelaide. If this continues, inflation is going to skyrocket again, which means everything will be more expensive PLUS interest rates will continue to rise (hello mortgage payments).
On top of all this, the US is running out of interceptor missiles. Iran has a highly advanced military with leaders who actually know what the f*ck they’re doing (unlike Pete Kegseth, whose war experience is as a former Fox News Weekend anchor). Iran is using cheap drones to exhaust the US. What happens when the interceptors run out?
The US government is being run by insane Christian fundamentalists who are aiding 1$rael to carry out their holy war. And we’re all just stuck on the sidelines, watching in horror as more people are murdered. I’m sick, and I’m tired, and I don’t know what to do about it.
I haven’t lost hope that a better world is possible because that’s what they want, but… sometimes it’s hard to keep your head up.
Other shit from this week:
- Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, was killed earlier in the week
- 165 girls were murdered in Iran when the US bombed a school (a bomb that was possibly used due to AI targeting)
- Puppy-killer, Kristi Noem, has been shoved out of Homeland Security. Oh, and her replacement is *checks notes* a former plumber. No hate to plumbers, but wtf.
- Strait of Hormuz has been closed by Iran – this is fucking big.
- War is costing the US nearly $1 billion a DAY
- Our limp noodle of a Prime Minister was the first international leader to support this stupid war
- New Epstein Files outline AGAIN how Trump is ALLEGEDLY a disgusting pedo
There’s been so much happening this week that it’s hard to keep track.
Pretty much the only thing I’ve been doing this week is working on the Magic Mosaic Cube. Crocheting, testing, writing, pictures, editing, proofreading… You get it! I have had this idea on my list for a while, and I love how it turned out. I had a numptie accuse me of using genAI for the cube on Facebook today. We’re fucking doomed if people can’t even be bothered to click a link to see all the images (and there’s even a video on the Etsy listing).
I also started writing a pattern for a goth poncho. It’s basically a wearable blanket, so it is taking a lonnngggg time to get through 1 row. It’s a great project for watching TV at night, and I’m using a 7mm hook, so it’s not as painful for my hands.
We are on season 4 of Breaking Bad… Still so good. My husband has been obsessively buying DVDs lately to build up our physical media collection, and he ordered Star Trek: Next Generation! Picard is my fave captain, so this might be the show that we watch next. Anyone else a Next Gen fan?
I’m still reading Red Sister by Mark Lawrence. It’s been okay. Not bad and not great. It’s so long, and I feel like it’s taking forever to get through the plot. Maybe it’s just because I am stressed, and my nervous system is trying to rush me through everything. I had several hours lying in bed this week, so I was able to get through a few extra chapters.
Fox Creations Patterns
My sister is still working on the custom order for the Agemon Doll custom order. Each wing is over 30 pieces, so I think she’s regretting taking it on at this point.
Sales have still been a little slow this week, but I’m not sure if not being able to comment on Facebook has affected everything.
A couple of bundles have been popular this week: Naughty Bits Emotional Support Buddies (next to Old Gregg, these are probably my faves) and The Farm Fidgets.
Fidgets are so popular right now. It seems like I see hair clip fidgets every time I scroll through the FB crochet groups. The first one I made was years ago – a little corn pattern that I found on Pinterest (before it was infected with genAI slop).
As I said above, I think I am going to be taking a bit of time off writing crochet patterns (other than finishing the poncho). I’m actually almost finished with a certification in Counselling, so maybe I’ll focus on that for a while. It’s officially Autumn here, so I also want to spend as much time outside as I can before it gets too cold.
As shit continues to go from worse to worse, protect your heart and your peace. Do little things for yourself. Reach out to friends and family who make your nervous system feel safe. Don’t lose your whimsy!
