Week 12 – What happened this week…

Sitting down to write the blog this week, and I can’t even remember what I did… where did this week go?!

I’m still dealing with some MCAS symptoms, but I did manage to go and get a blood test done (finally – I’ve been trying to do it since before Christmas, and I just didn’t feel up to it). I’m taking that as a win!

We’ve also been looking into buying an EV. We have been talking about it for years, but we just never bit the bullet because we have two cars that we own outright, so getting into debt wasn’t appealing. However, given the current state of the world and oil prices, we decided to go for it.

Did you know that some EVs only have 1 pedal? WTF. I’ve reached the age where things changing makes me mad (LOL). The car also doesn’t have a gear shift… because it doesn’t have an engine… and I don’t know what to think about it. I wanted to throw a tantrum and buy an 80’s Camaro instead.

Will I be able to drive this new car without my brain exploding? Watch this space.

Week 3 of the stupidest war of the century, and the Strait of Hormuz is still closed. Oil is over $100 USD a barrel. Petrol prices are over $2.40 a litre. Iran has started to sell oil in Chinese Yuan.

The RBA increased interest rates by .25 basis points. At the end of last year, economists predicted rates to FALL, but… thanks to Trump, inflation is rising again, and the markets are unstable because no one knows what he’s going to do from one day to the next.

Identity politics are on the rise in Australia. We have our own Trump, Pauline Hanson, who has been in politics since the late 9o’s and is a racist POS. Just recently, she called another woman in Parliament a ‘bitch’ and said that all Muslims are bad people. I love this for us (/s).

Other shit from this week:

Unfortunately, I got distracted by other stuff, and I didn’t get to start any new vintage patterns this week.

My niece’s 16th birthday is in April, and I wanted to make a tarot pouch to go with the vintage deck that I bought her. While I had the Flinders Shine yarn out, I decided I wanted to design a bucket hat… and then I saw heaps of posts on Reddit about issues crocheting circles, so I decided to write a new Crochet 101 article.

I haven’t been able to find any Source of Fibre Drape to continue working on the goth poncho that I started, so that’s on hold.

I am still crocheting the Pound Puppy that I’ll enter into the Royal Adelaide Show. I have most of the pieces done (I only need to finish the belly and neck), and then I’m going to steam them a little before sewing them together.

Last night, we started the final season of Breaking Bad. Seriously, I don’t know if I realised what an awful person Walt is when we watched the show nearly 2 decades ago. And poor Jesse! He gets dragged into all of Walt’s bullshit. I enjoyed the first 3 seasons more than Season 4. We’ve been trying to decide what we’re going to watch next. Maybe Better Call Saul

I started rewatching House. I don’t think I ever finished watching the whole series. I love medical dramas, but the sexism is next level.

I am still reading Grey Sister by Mark Lawrence. Again, it’s pretty good, but I’m not totally in love with it. It seems much longer than it needs to be…

Fox Creations Patterns

The Fidget Bead Key Fobs have still been popular on Etsy.

I’ve been thinking of remaking all of my fidget patterns and taking better pictures. Some of them are a few years old, so they could use an update. Plus, it would give me an excuse to buy more beads!

The Easiest Beanie pattern has been popular on Ravelry! I love that this pattern is getting out there because it’s really a full tutorial on how to make sure your top-down beanies fit. I know that a lot of people have issues with beanies, and they’re so easy once you get the hang of the technique.

As I said, I am making a bucket hat with the Flinders Shine that I’ll be writing a pattern for (as long as it comes out well).

My sister is STILL making the Agemon custom. The wings are 30+ pieces each. She’s having to glue them, wait for it to dry, and do some sewing. It’s wayyyy more complicated than we though it would be.

If you’re struggling like me, please find small moments where you can get out of the doom cycle. Get outside, eat something tasty, have a cup of tea… take care of yourselves.
