Week 3 – Down the Spiral
Well, this week we continued down the spiral of Dementia Don’s delusion.
ICE are wreaking havoc in Minnesota – tear gassing random cars with kids inside. A 6-month-old nearly died. It is only a matter of time before this all erupts into guerrilla fighting in the streets. I predicted that Trump’s win in 2024 would bring on the next US Civil War, and it seems like we’re getting closer every day.
Donald continues his sundowner obsession with Greenland. European countries have sent troops over to deter his imperial ambitions. Now he’s preparing to tariff European countries until they agree to ‘sell’ Greenland. So… blackmailing. The only thing these idiots understand is bullying because the dumbest people possible are in charge.
A little history tid-bit: Did you know that the only other person to give away their Nobel Prize was Norwegian Knut Hamsun in 1943. Guess who he gifted the prize to? Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi propagandist.
This has always been how the US works; we're just seeing behind the curtain.
My body is still trying to recover from the stress of Christmas. hEDS and MCAS are kicking my ass. My hip joints are hurting in places that I didn’t know they could hurt, and my diaphragm is so freaking tight. So, it’s been a bit of a push to get through my projects.
My sister is feeling the same (except she has somehow hurt her elbow), so the hair clip fidgets are on the back burner until she’s back on track.
I did have an idea for another project that I’m so excited to get into next week! I won’t say too much yet, but it’s using little panels of Overlay Mosaic. I’ve been learning how to use the new OM function on Stitch Fiddle, and it’s much quicker than making charts manually. I think you are all going to love it! It’s weird and funny – two of my favourite adjectives for crochet projects.
Current Project
I’m still working on the Whirlette sweater, but I only have 1 sleeve left! I had to frog the first sleeve because I wasn’t happy with the shaping (and I somehow lost a stitch). I’m almost finished with the 3rd skein (and 5 rounds into the 2nd sleeve).
I’m using Dora Does’ Any Yarn Will Do Sweater pattern and substituting hdc (half double crochet) for esc (extended single crochet). I’m using single crochet ribbing with a hook 1 size down.
We watched the new Predator on Saturday night. Wow! It was actually really good (shockingly). We watched Running Man a couple of weeks ago, and it was absolutely shit, so I’m suspicious of new movies. I love the original, and I’m still mad at how awful the remake was.
Last week, I finally started (and finished) Snake Eater by T. Kingfisher. A solid 4 stars! It’s quite different from her other books, but I loved the characters and stories. It felt like it needed a final edit because it was quite repetitive, but it’s worth a read if you are a lover of fantasy or magic realism. I’m now reading another book by Kingfisher, Hemlock & Silver.
Fox Creations Patterns
This week, I finished the next pattern in the Easiest series – The Easiest Ribbed Beanie!
Well, technically, beanies because there are two patterns included: cinched top and cat ear. They are SO warm (maybe too warm for Australia). I am going to gift the folded brim one to my father-in-law for his bald head. It’s only an Adult Medium, but it fits on my husband’s big head.
The most popular pattern this week has been the Alpine Stitch Gloves! Passionknit Kelsie made them on YouTube before Christmas, so I’m not sure if people are still finding the pattern from her video. If you’re making them, let me know what you think.
I guess people are prepping for Valentine’s Day because the Heart Cat Ear Beanie has been getting some love over this week on Etsy. I love this pattern! I made one in black and white to donate, and I might make another one this week if I can find some yarn in my stash.
Hard to believe that we’re already 3 weeks into the year. Make sure you set some time aside to scream into the void and get weird.
